Kazhugu... a suicide movie

If you think you are going to watch '6 pound' (Will Smith's movie ) or a 'cliffhanger' kind of movie , you better sit back and read this first. Don't waste your money going to cinema. I watched it in Astro (cable TV) since i got nothing to do and the monthly bill was already paid. That is the only reason i watched it. This movie tried their best to replicate Myna or one of those rural based story and they failed miserably.
Many directors think that making a good movie is like making "Rassam" (Indian soup). It is not about bringing together a hero, an actress, 1-2 villains, a few comedians, a bunch of thugs look alike men and put them in a village with church & nuns. Add some drinking and getting drunk scenes, marriage, funeral, cottages and dirty outfits. After that ask a story writer, now, "can you write a story with all these in it".
You won't get a movie, bro; you will get beating. And you get empty theatre. If only the movie making was that easy than Oscar ceremony will be abolished. Ok, let's get back to this movie, Kazhugu.
The only thing i liked about this movie was the job description of the hero and his friends - a corpse collectors. They search and bring  the bodies of people who committed suicide on the cliff at their village. What a superb portfolio. These bunch of guys only do this job and refuses any other decent job. How is the start? They get drunk and steal all the jewellery from the death body and sell it. One fine day, a girl fell in love with these guy. And the story ends. After time point, i got dizzy and nearly committed suicide myself.
If anyone needs a psychiatric check, must the heroine in this movie; who lost her sister whom committed suicide at that cliff and fell in love with the guy who brought her body up and stole her sister's ring. Then she felt pity he is getting drunk to his brain and sleeping by the muddy roadside. So decided to pull him to the side of the road. Are they thinking the Tamil girls are all stupid to their bones. In this movie, it is true, she gave him more money just outside the church and ask him to drink more so that he will get pancreatitis and die, i suppose. Who knows? Can you get a better girlfriend than her? That is why more Indian guys still drinking.
The producer should have not hired so many villains, if you going to use them only for 10mins. Building a character in a movie is not easy, and i am no expert . Surely, for this movie, the screenplay was written by a non expert too. Good character development needs a good screenplay writer who is creative and knows how to make a character believable . In this movie, after 30mins, everything moving different direction with different pace. You get villains talking for less than a min than some scenes were may be made like pulp fiction movies. From a drunk state, the hero get sober, he goes to the girl's house and give his future father in law more booze, and ask the girl to lie down on his thigh. Then he disappears, and get drunk again. I felt like biting my pillow and jump down the cliff myself. Thank god it is over. The screenplay writer; please Google character development for movie, you might learn more. Don't cheat your audiences.
Ok, folks; that is my review on Kazhugu. Many might just see this movie after my review just to confirm it. Please do, but don't come back tell me that i didn't warn you earlier. I told you so...
Have fun. No stars for this movie just get drunk before you watch it.

Leelai

Leelai - a  must watch love story

If you are one of those who have given up on good Tamil love story.
Please, please go and see this one. A must watch movie. Superb story, well acted and well directed. A movie that will make you happy.

A good movie to bring your girlfriend and have a romantic night out. Trust me , you might get lucky too. If you are married then take your wife/husband, it will rekindle your love lives too.

I haven't heard of any of the actors except for Santhanam. Shiv Pandit (in certain angle - Shah Rukh Khan, look alike) Even though, he is an Hindi actor, he did a good job in Tamil movie. Hope we will see more of him in Tamil movies. Manasi Parekh another new comer did her role pretty well too.
For your information, this movie do not have those long fighting scenes, irritating crying scenes, parents issues , no gangster brothers or uncles, unnecessary dragging death scenes or even a villain.
I liked this movie because it is a very straight forward storyline and an enjoyable one too. May even make you smile in a few scenes.
You might not even take notice of the lack of scenic view such as multiple rows of sarees, flower garden scenes and running around the tree scenes. Nothing much to desired about the editing and cinematography skills. Of course the software company (HCL) got its publicity.
I think the storyline alone carried the movie to its success. A job well done to the director - Andrew Louis. My rating is  4/5.

Oru Kal Oru Kannadi review

Oru Kal Oru Kannadi
by moniya

If you got nothing to do and you are counting sheep then you can watch this movie just to see how bad it is.

This is a total waste of money production . Looks like this whole project was made just to make this producer happy. Sometimes during our meeting with friends, many guys may say, 'you should try acting'.' You are really good in it'. But doesn't mean you must really make a movie to prove that.

The sad thing is, many (esp directors, actors, actress) may even say good things about this movie just to please him. Many may even tell him that he acted so well, that he should do it more often. Get real, buddy.

Let me put it in plain english just like simon (american idol) use to say,  U. Stalin - you can't act; period! First and foremost, with due respect Udhayanidhi Stalin should stick to producing movie only. He is good in that field.

I don't going even add any movie scene in my blog because it is not worth downloading and seeing it.  I am not even going to rate it. Watch at your own risk!

Velayutham review

Velayutham

After Ghilli, this is the next vijay's movie i watched. Even though his acting was way below ordinary in the his previous movies which brought his career to stand still for the last 1 year; in Valayutham, the storyline, lyrics and the cinematography have brought some good acting in him. Especially, at certain crucial climax scenes. If you are a vijay fan, you will extremely happy to see him rejuvenated. If you are another Tamil movie fan like me, good movie to watch for its comedy and storyline. Vijay did a splendid acting for about 30mins. The rest must be given to credits to the supporting actors esp Santhanam.

The heroine role not well developed, i am dissapointed by Hansika's acting. Her dancing moves look fake; may need some lessons if she wants to excel in Tamil movie scenes. You can't dance without having a flair for south indian  folk songs and  good hip movements when you are doing a local tamil dance rhythm.

I think M. Raja did the action scenes well. Something new for Tamil movie. I think he should explore with other heros. Overall, good movie to watch. My rating 3 star

3 Moonu review

3 - Moonu

by moniya
Usually I wait for someone to tell me which Tamil movie to watch. If the reviews from my peers are good, then i will go and watch it. But Moonu was well hyped by its song 'Kolaveri', months before its release. Even my sons were singing it. I did not like it, being a father; who wants his sons to sing Kolaveri in public when i take them for shopping.

Much waited movie from Dhanush. Must say, i was one of those who wrote off of both dhanush and shruti, after their initial movie few years ago. Over the last 3-4 movies, Dhanush have matured into the big scene. I feel  he even over tooked some of the big timers like Vijay, Simbu, Arjun and etc in terms of versatility, facial expression and his capability to bring out his characters well in the movie. He did very well in his previous movie Mayakam Enna. I enjoyed it as much as Moonu. It will a close call for which is better. Even though, the ending was a bit off beat in Mayakam enna, Moonu took the ending scene like Quentin Tarantino, Alfred Hitchcock, Christopher Nolan etc kind of movies. Many tamil movie lovers might not like this ending but..i loved it. Disturbing... but something new for a change in the Tamil movie scene.

Well, must say that it has been long seen any recent heros did a sad scene well. Recently, many heros can't do or don't do sad scenes as well as the old timers like my all time favourite Kamalhassan. In Moonu, Dhanush and Shruti have shown its in their blood. In Mayakam enna, Richa did a excellent act, in fact she surprised me; one of the best during the scene when she came back from hospital; she cleaned the blood stain and without saying a word she her facial expression and hands were superb....i watched it few times; (may be i will write about it in another post)

In Moonu, Dhanush and Shruti  have shown how well they can do some of the scenes which look technically difficult with camera so close to your face. As for Shruti, she proved herself worthy of being a superstar actress. I am waiting for her next movie. She stands for herself, even though she got her father eyes; she does act her heart out. See the scene at the end of this song clip beside (above); you may have tears coming out. Now, i will add Dhanush into my all time favourite Tamil movie hero list. Of course, the list is not long. I will post in my next article on Tamil Hero list.

Ok, folks. Guess, i am done with Moonu. Kolaveri is much better seen with the dance in the movie. Credits to the director, Aisywarya for the great work. Good directors makes good movies. Well done...
My rating. 5 stars
